Ms Zizipho Tom

Research Intern

I am a pursuing a Master’s degree in Sociology and intern at the Centre for Philosophy in Africa, Nelson Mandela University. My research interests revolve around social justice, sociology of health and sociolinguistics, particularly on language policies in the South African government department. I hold a BA from the University of the Western Cape and a BA (Hons) in Sociology from Nelson Mandela University. My Honours research examined how language affects access to health care. My current research interrogates how the language and communication challenges faced by court interpreters during proceedings affect the course of justice.
